Description:

Like a Gift from God, I’ve stumbled upon an ancient music-teaching secret that was used for thousands of years and has been pretty much forgotten!

If you’re already a professional teacher of songwriting, or if you’re just starting out with your first songs, the information in this eBook can help you save time, money, and effort, while giving you a relaxing creative boost.

Hi, my name is Dainis W. Michel, and I’m an educated, award-winning, and honored composer and songwriter.

10 years as a full-time single dad kept me out of the limelight for a bit, but I concentrated on helping others bring out the songs and compositions in their souls, hearts, and imaginations.

I’ve developed some powerful, easy-to learn, surprisingly simple techniques, that can really move your musicianship forward.

One of my techniques is a modernization of a teaching method that’s been around for thousands of years. Because I started professional and academic musicianship later in life, and I was trying to keep up with the astronomic genius-level musicians and composers at the world-renowned Universtiy of Music and Performance Art in Vienna, Austria, I meditated and prayed for months to come up with these helpful techniques, and by the grace of God, some wonderful simplifications of complex musical topics “came to me,” and I was able to improve personally – and teach others.

Read on to find out how my methods can help you too!

Coming up with a way to notate rhythms “came to me” quite quickly.

Purchase my eBook to find out how you can transform the most rudimentary rhythmic sketches into precise notation.

If you can make dots or slashes on a blank sheet of paper, you can use this method to notate any rhythm of any complexity. Your sense for spacing computer-typeset music notation (with software like Finale or Sibelius) will also improve. People will be able to read the music you write more easily, and the faster musicians can sight-read your music, the faster you can get to interpretation and passionate performances on stage or in the studio.

In medieval music, the Guidonian hand was a mnemonic device used to assist singers in learning to sight-sing.Source: Wikipedia

But I had not figured out how to really “get to” the notes yet. I learned the Kodaly solfeggio system with movable do, I tried singing fixed do, but it seemed to sprain my tongue, and the Nashville numbering presented the same problems as movable do, where you basically had to analyze the piece on the fly just to know what syllable to sing.

The more complex the music got that I was singing and analyzing (even in popular music), the more useless the available solfeggio systems became.

I needed something limitless. Something that would work for all music in all genres, from all times in history.

I was fascinated by the Guidonian hand. Hmm…a monk 1,000 years ago placed the solfeggio tones on the human hand, had his choir singers use their hands while learning their music — and his results were so fast and remarkable — that the rest of the monks were jealous?!?

Beyond being saddened that progress and efficiency were criticized, I felt like there might be a way to modernize the Guidonian hand.

…One day, I went to my post-grad music composition lessons at the University of Music and Performance Art, in Vienna, Austria (I’m still surprised they let me in), and my class had opened the piano and they were strumming Christmas Carols on the INSIDE of the piano. They were playing it like a harp.

They did not play a single wrong note. It was a bizarre jam-session and at least I can sing. So I sang along.

But I was like “how on Earth can they do that?” They were modulating from one key to the next, people were taking turns at the piano, and really the only thing that kept me from running out of the room was that I can sing.

I had to do something to keep up with these monster musicians!

I figured out a way to put the clock, the piano, and every single note of music — onto one hand!

My sight-singing immediately improved. I started composing more complex and interesting works with a clear connection between my musical imagination and the written page.

…And students started showing up…and wow…it’s been so incredibly rewarding to help others write their songs and compositions — not only write them creatively — but write them down using notation that immortalizes the music.

Because this educational tool came to me in prayer, I was curious about whether my innovation may have even deeper roots…and guess what?

Looks like “mudras” are hand-signs used in many religions and spiritual practices.

Apparently, their power is not to be underestimaed, because…

Buried! Left in the dust!

Ancient Egyptians used a system of HAND SIGNS called cheironomy to teach and perform music!

…and my modernized version…worked!!!

…and then students started coming, and I’d like to tell you about my oldest student to date, a kind gentleman named Edmund Rumpler. At the time, he was in his mid 70’s, and he’d spent his whole life in marketing.

He was unable to write out his songs, although he had been playing them on his piano for years. Honestly, when he first came to me and played his songs, I couldn’t tell if they were in 3/4 of 4/4 time…he kept kind of pausing and stopping and kicking himself.

I encouraged him to write out his songs, despite his lack of skill in music notation. I don’t know if he’s still walking this earth, but every time I think of him, I have to smile, because with my help, I taught him how to do this:

It’s amazing how beautiful the premiere performance of this song was, even with such a “sketchy” score.

Respecting your musical creations, by writing your songs down, really increases the quality of your results!

…fantastic resource for musicians…

“Around 3 months ago, I stumbled upon Dainis’ website when looking for resources on composition. I sent him an e-mail asking about his book “How to Write Your Songs Down”, wondering about its content and If I stood to gain anything from it, being a student at Berklee College of Music. He replied telling me that I should indeed give it a go.

“Around 3 months ago (Note: this is around 2007), I stumbled upon Dainis’ website when looking for resources on composition. I sent him an e-mail asking about his book “How to Write Your Songs Down”, wondering about its content and If I stood to gain anything from it, being a student at Berklee College of Music. He replied telling me that I should indeed give it a go.

I used this book to supplement my studies at school, and after completing it, I have nothing but good things to say about it! Firstly, let me assure you that the content in this book is extremely well written and thought out, appealing to both beginners and experienced musicians. To some, I am sure that the exercises inside will appear incredibly simplistic, but do not be fooled by this! These exercises are both unique to this book, and I can say firsthand that they are quite effective.

A key component of this book is, obviously, writing your music down by hand. I cannot stress enough about how important writing music down by hand in some way is. Before reading this book I worked entirely in a computer for my notation, and only wrote by hand when it was absolutely necessary, but after applying this book to my musical actives, and doing some research on

how the human brain acquires and processes information, I write everything down by hand before entering into the computer. The result is that I make far fewer mistakes in every composition and feel like I have a much greater control over everything that’s on the page.

In conclusion, I would like to thank Dainis for his incredible caring and kindness for fellow musicians, and for writing such a fantastic book. I dearly hope that as time goes by, this gets the recognition it deserves as a fantastic resource for musicians who want a jump start when it comes to composition.

“Dainis is helping my business. Highly Recommended.”

I was the Head of Lighting and Sound at the University of Illinois Courtyard Cafe for a while…great job, great students, great time, great memories…and most importantly…great lights & sound!

I was voted in as the Musicoin Artist of the Week, if I remember correctly, week 39 of 2019…

Look, for me, when I wrote my first solo album, I wanted to add some string and horn arrangements, and I did not know how. I felt low and embarrassed. I know what it feels like to feel self-conscious about your musicianship…

I understand how tempting it is to just accept not being able to read or write music, and that it’s easy to let people say how cool and creative you are despite your lack in “knowledge.” Yeah, yeah, you’re a “natural,” the music just flows out of you, it’s just not necessary for you to be able to read or write music…but somewhere inside…it still just feels crappy being musically illiterate!

…need I go on…it just feels crappy being musically illiterate!

Been there, done that, and your suffering can end now. I’ve made it easy, accessible and fun.

For songwriting, being able to notate music is like the difference between driving a Ferarri and a used broken down Yugo! (Remember that little car?), it’s like riding a thoroughbred vs. a donkey, it’s like a diamond vs. a lump of coal, it’s like going from being a scrawny weakling to being a muscle-bound superstar, it’s like going from being in debt and not being able to afford a sandwich for lunch…to being a millionaire and being able to eat and buy whatever you want!

When writing your music down, whatever kind of music it is, from pop songs, to jazz, to arrangements, to compositions, to childrens songs, to country tunes, to folk music to hard rock, to dance music, to the deeply personal and original music you make, you’ll feel:

I want you to feel that way, and that is why I’m offering you my best information, my best tools, my best tips, even song analysis and links to other great teachers and resources — for a ridiculously low price.
